When you place it under your head, neck and shoulders, it disperses pressure avoiding any pinch points. Your shoulders and neck experience a deep release that transitions up toward the top of your skull.

Will it hurt? Yes. But only for a little in the beginning.
Each spike responds to tension in your body, so more tension = more sensation. The initial “Ouch!” you feel activates your body’s pain response and tells it to send happiness hormones and pain-relief chemicals to the area you’re targeting. I like the pillow doesn’t bother me in the least. Not sure if I’m feeling anything from it though. Just not sure about it yet

Shakti Pillow - not sure
I purchased the pillow as the rolled version was not available (to match the mat colour). In hindsight the rolled version would have been better for me as creates more pressure.

Melts neck tension
I found it easier to get used to than the mat (which was 100% worth pushing through by the way). The pillow is amazingly effective at releasing the tension in my upper neck and base of my skull. An intense minute or two that gives way to a warmth and relaxation that no massage pillow has ever accomplished. I was on the fence about adding the pillow to my mat order but I’m glad I did.

Very spikey!
I started with a cheap acupressure mat and was completely comfortable on it, so I thought I was ready for the Level 2. These spikes are sharper than anything else! Great quality and the cushy inner layer softens the blow a bit, and the spikes are a better shape for avoiding breakage compared to the curved Pranamat spikes. Very happy - but still working up to a full session on the Level 2! I’ve been able to get a good night’s sleep for the first time in six months despite only being able to handle a few minutes laying on the mat - the pillow is great behind the neck/lower back while sitting if you’re brave.
