When you place it under your head, neck and shoulders, it disperses pressure avoiding any pinch points. Your shoulders and neck experience a deep release that transitions up toward the top of your skull.

Will it hurt? Yes. But only for a little in the beginning.
Each spike responds to tension in your body, so more tension = more sensation. The initial “Ouch!” you feel activates your body’s pain response and tells it to send happiness hormones and pain-relief chemicals to the area you’re targeting. I started with a cheap acupressure mat and was completely comfortable on it, so I thought I was ready for the Level 2. These spikes are sharper than anything else! Great quality and the cushy inner layer softens the blow a bit, and the spikes are a better shape for avoiding breakage compared to the curved Pranamat spikes. Very happy - but still working up to a full session on the Level 2! I’ve been able to get a good night’s sleep for the first time in six months despite only being able to handle a few minutes laying on the mat - the pillow is great behind the neck/lower back while sitting if you’re brave.

My favourite Shakti item
I am so in love with the premium Shakti mat and pillow. I use them both pretty much every day and the relief is incredible. I find myself craving some time on the spikes! The pillow is especially helpful and versatile - I get a lot of tension in my neck, jaw, and the base of my skull, so I sometimes sleep on the pillow or tuck it against my hip/lower back/etc while I'm watching TV or working (at a desk) and it helps me to relax so much. The sensory feedback is amazing as well, I can't recommend Shakti enough and I've become slightly insufferable telling everybody I know that they need to try it!
